RENOVATIONs and CONVERSIONS

GREENRIDGE

The Brief

Greenridge is a distinguished Category B Listed residence, overlooking the scenic Dee Valley, nestled within over four acres of stunning gardens. The six-bedroom mansion was designed by Aberdeen’s best-known architect, Archibald Simpson, and built in 1840. A granite porch was added in 1910.

Previously owned by oil giant BP, Greenridge had been part of the company’s business for more than 40 years before our clients purchased the property. Initially used as a private home for BP senior management, the building later became a venue for meetings and conferences, while occasionally accommodating company guests. Over the years, the interior had been extensively modified, featuring conference rooms, bedrooms, and a full-service catering kitchen tailored for corporate events.

Our clients entrusted us with the comprehensive renovation of Greenridge, restoring its original purpose as a family home.

KEY INFORMATION

Comprehensive refurbishment of a Listed Building, involving alterations and upgrading of all living, kitchen bathroom and bedroom spaces.

The Design

We saw this as an exciting opportunity to preserve Aberdeen’s heritage while integrating modern, sustainable living solutions. Listed buildings, often celebrated for their historical or architectural significance, come with unique challenges and responsibilities. Sustainability, in this context, involves not only minimizing environmental impact but also ensuring that the conversion respects the historical fabric of the building and enhances social and economic value for both residents and the broader community

We undertook a comprehensive renovation, including adding roof glazing and windows to the original dining area and opening this up to the rear kitchen. The competed family areas, once dark and dated, are now light-filled spaces. The property has been transformed from a corporate facility back into a warm, inviting residence for our clients and their children.
