KEY INFORMATION
A contemporary extension to the side of an existing cottage creating a pottery studio
The Design
The resulting design is a contemporary addition to the existing cottage. The proposed pitched roof vernacular form harmonises with its immediate context. Slate was the choice of material on the external walls and roof creating a monolithic form that provides a contrast to the cottage, distinguishing between old and new.
There is playful management of rainwater with Japanese rainchains providing a beautiful but functional aesthetic.
The interior of the pottery studio is finished in OSB. The hard and durable finish is fit for purpose for a 'messy' occupation such as ceramics. The large expanse of glazing provides views to the manicured garden and rolling hills in the distance, providing inspiration for Fifi's Pottery.
